Session 22

Page history last edited by Michael Grasso 13 years, 6 months ago

Scene 1: Individuals

Salih sets into place a new spell effect on the grounds of the Academy, so that he can be at the center of a web of connections leading throughout the academy's student body. Ernst in the past two months, working on the Academy and with the Servitores Apicis, has joined the Adamantine Arrow. Matthieu has been working in secret on disease experiments on condemned men, murderers and thieves. Lóránt has met with Zsuzanna. (0 - 15)

Scene 2: Gardens

We flashback to Lóránt and Matthieu in the Emperor's Gardens, meeting with Father Jiri and his loyal, progressive Jesuit fathers. It becomes clear throughout the meeting that the Jesuits are not going to receive a role in planning the academy's curriculum but that some of Jiri's party may be able to teach in the coming months. Lóránt's unnatural charisma alarms Matthieu, as he continues to suss out his desire to join the ranks of the Mages as opposed to increased interaction with the Vampires. (15 - 41)

Scene 3: Establishment

Over the past two months, the cabal has, with the help of powers at court (most notably Makovsky), selected a first class of students for their new Academy. They have begun with classes on anatomy (Matthieu), metaphysics and philosophy (Salih), warfare and history (Ernst), and astronomy, fencing and other specialities (Lóránt). The class is evenly divided between 4 Catholics and 4 Protestants, even though there are many more sons of the Protestant/Hussite nobility in Bohemia. (41 - 64)

Scene 4: Two Messages

Two messengers arrive: one an advance message from Ludovic, Jan, and a third man who appear to be bringing "a casket" to Prague, and one from the palace, telling of an imminent banquet in the honor of the new abbot of the Capuchins... Friar Lorenzo di Brindisi. With this announcement of a man of the same name as the Seer of the Throne whom they killed two months ago, the cabal snaps into action. (64 - 80)

Scene 5: Action

No one knows why this has not gone noticed by the Consilium. Matthieu proposes he summon the ghost of the deceased Seer, but realizes the Shadow so close at Benatky would be a bad idea. They will need to do it more gently, near a possible haunt. Salih decides this is an audacious and powerful gambit to keep "Lorenzo" safe. Ernst knows someone in the past five days has made a command for this banquet, Emperor or no. Lóránt heads into town the evening prior to address the Consilium. Salih makes the perimeter safe. (80 - 115)

Scene 6: In Memoriam

Lóránt quickly discovers that none of the people who remained in Prague throughout the last two months remembers the death of the first Lorenzo in the bell tower of the Capuchins. Lóránt finds that Gans does not remember but does help him clue together that the memories of those in Prague have been adjusted with magic. Indeed, the Fate mages of the Consilium think that members of the Servitores have been nudged out of town. Ernst heads back early the next morning and works with Makovsky to find out that the records also reflect no record of Lorenzo but the burial was at Emauzy, The Monastery Na Slovanech, which is a Hussite monastery. (115 - 139)

Scene 7: Gathering

In the morning, Lóránt meets up with the rest of the cabal, Ernst first after his discovery of where the burial ground is. Makovsky asks Lóránt if he is experiencing any memory loss yet. Matthieu and Salih arrive at the castle. Matthieu grills Makovsky to find out what he remembers about events tangential to the Lorenzo event. Salih gives the idea that Fate was tied into the Mind effect. For the timing to be complete now is also very conspicuous. The Peregrini decide not to unweave it. Salih thinks Lorenzo's arrival is no mere coincidence. Lóránt says they are trying to first kill us physically, now they may be trying to humiliate us socially. Ernst says the memory loss may have thus targeted them by not targeting them. Ernst and Makovsky head to the Capuchin Tower; Salih, Lóránt and Matthieu go to the burial ground of Emauzy. (139 - 153)

Scene 8: Grave

The PCs linger outside the monastery for a bit and then decide to enter and greet the sexton in the very old graveyard. Lóránt asks about a recent grave of Brother Christov. The name does not ring a bell with him. There is an unmarked, fresh grave. Exhumation begins. (153 - 164)

Scene 9: Tower

Ernst and Makovsky arrive at the Tower to discuss affairs of protocol with Abbot Lorenzo. They are sent to wait in his office about 3/4 of the way up the tower. In the office, Ernst notices it is almost bare, with only a desk, chairs, an icon to Mary, and a kneeler. With his Mage Sight (Life) up, Ernst sees nothing of note on the room, tower, or monk who met them. None of the former or latter Lorenzo's personal effects are visible. When Lorenzo arrives, he is obviously a different man: taller, lighter but less-grey hair, short cropped beard, about the same age, brown robe. This is a different person. His aura is human. He speaks German slowly and welcomes the men. Makovsky wishes to welcome him. Lorenzo arrived on horseback three days ago from Siena. Very hot, he says. Small talk about the weather and seating at the banquet ensues. Ernst switches to Spirit Mage Sight. No auras, but the room has a faint Spirit Resonance, though. Very bad things happened in this room. (164 - 172)

Scene 10: Ghost

Lóránt, keeping the sexton under Awe, tries to keep him distracted while Matthieu and Salih work on digging up the grave, but he seeks to find out who interred a body illegally in his graveyard. The body comes up and the sexton acts squeamish; Matthieu intimidates him into backing off behind the screen. Lóránt uses Auspex to smell for burning or ozone on the body. Poltergeist activity begins; Lóránt is able to smell active electricity in the air, a whiff of ozone, the hairs on his arm stand up on end. Lóránt tells the men behind the screen to scatter, and grabs the sexton to take him into the church proper. Matthieu feels a hammerblow on his chest, but the Mage Armor and his willpower disperse the energy. Matthieu commands the ghost to stop and he does. The ghost, angered and confused at his burial in a no-man's grave, speaks first to Matthieu and then to the three of them.  Salih puts up an effect to give him immediate ability to react when something happens. Lóránt comes back from the church to see the gravestone fly into the air. "My name is Julio Cesare Russo." The ghost asks, "Haven't I been made a mockery of enough?" Matthieu says, "In life, you suffered several indignities." Salih realizes that he recognizes Matthieu is the man who killed him due to his Fate/Time effect and that he is trying to make a form of electricity for himself in this world. Salih bestows exceptional luck on Matthieu. Matthieu talks him down and tries to explain what happened while he was alive; his face and body were stolen. Julio says there are gaps in his memories in the months leading up to his death. He vacillates between weakness, self-pity, and anger. Salih uses Fate sight to try and find a connection between this body and anyone else. Salih and Matthieu explain to Lóránt that this was the body but not the presence. Salih looks back at the most important thing that happened to Julio; it was a private meeting where a man wore a jeweled vestment with High Speech in the symbols for Mind. "You are one of our Order's chosen. I will remember your face. And you will be the hand of the Exarchs." Salih takes Lóránt aside and describes the garment, and Lóránt sees a Qabbalistic tree of life in the carvings, but reversed, as it were the Qlippoth and Abyssal . Matthieu says he was forced to destroy his body and for that he is sorry. "He told me he was of my Order and... he was giving me his name? I was a decoy, a suit!" Sculpt ephemera, make him a gift. (172 - 203)

Scene 11: Remnants

Ernst uses Exorcist's Eye and shows no spirit inhabiting the abbot. Ernst then peers across the Gauntlet: he sees a flock of sharp-angled black spirits diving towards him. Spirits of theft.
