Session 62

Page history last edited by Michael Grasso 8 years, 4 months ago

Lorant has given the command to the Emperor to bring the hunt to Karlstein Castle. Lorant and Salih talked to Jiri. There is a second-in-command to Thurn at Karlstein that Jiri knows. Ernst lit his candle again to talk to the Seers, and the cabal (Salih) wanted to let Christian know they are going after the Karlstein Pylon.

Other dangling threads: Zayed’s reaction to the arrest/magic, Kelley, transporting the gold.

ERNST AND CHRISTIAN OF THE SEERS

Ernst summoning the Seers: an hour after he lights the candle, there is a loud rap on the door. Ernst assumes that they’re using possessed bodies; if there was a scry or Fate effect, they’d be able to react straight away. They are doing this with old-fashioned human intelligence and they likely have more than one person watching Ernst’s office.

One of the castle guards is standing there. “Yes?” he says. Ernst says this is not as subtle as usual. “Neither is your signal, what’s wrong?” Ernst says he has information. It appears they are taking your bait, or perhaps your other Pylon’s bait. “Did you mention if they go in and physically harm them, we’ll be forced to react?” In my own way. “What the hell does that mean?” It means I can’t just tell them that. “Despite this warning which you may or may not have stated clearly…” Ernst feels he was clear, and they are still making this choice. They feel it is a way to weaken you. “This will necessarily change our dynamic. Depending on what they do, we may need to commit to a war.” Ernst understands. “Do you have any details?” Ernst says it will depend on the Karlstein Pylon. They are quite good at what they do. “I cannot predict what this other Pylon will do, other than I am still convinced they will put out an alarm to other Seers.” Ernst says the true endgame in Prague is that change all over Europe must begin here. Christian agrees. Ernst is confused about this other Pylon’s motives. “They came to try to trigger a different set of religious conflict; instead of Catholic vs. Protestant, Christian vs. infidel. Ernst says they will lose this battle against the cabal. “Are you trying to tell me to tell them that your cabal is coming to scare them out of town?” Ernst says that this specific battle is not one they can win. “That is a risky gambit. If it succeeds, my Pylon is alone in Prague. If it doesn’t, they think my Pylon is working with you, and report it up the chain.” Ernst gives Christian some truth, he wants the war to happen so it can be done. This has been a strong bone of contention with my cabal. I feel like this is the best route out for society. “If this other Pylon succeeds, they will launch a crusade against the Turks. It will put off a sectarian war for some time. The Pylon will flee if they are danger. I know your cabal has three Masters. That’s not something you can hide. Even with you without your powers. We understand you have more than a dozen other Mages. This is why we don’t…” Ernst, why you’ve been fumbling about. “My Pylon doesn’t! the one who was here before us did. The fact that we sit across from you in conversation tells you we are more serious.” Ernst thinks they also underestimate his cabal. “Well, your vampire friend seems half-convinced our way is right, and your position is compromised as well. We are trying to bring people over to our way of thinking.” Ernst says this is precisely why they should convince the Karlstein Pylon of the rightness of their ways. “We will need some plausible way to convince Karlstein of the rightness of this approach that doesn’t trigger suspicion of you.” Ernst says he’ll think on this.

PLANNING: MATTHIEU, SALIH

Matthieu would like to set up a Consilium meeting to propose we move to the Star Palace. Lorant had mortal agents research Thurn, and had the task force look for Seers at Karlstein.

Salih will need to revisit Talbot/Kelley and be ready to make the gold break through to the upper reaches of the mines. Matthieu asks why he’s helping Talbot. Salih says he can help him make inroads in England, and thus to America. Matthieu says this work with Fate sometimes seems very inefficient; Salih concedes this. Matthieu is concerned at giving Talbot some of the gold. Also, Matthieu knows making this into coinage would be a great treasonous offense. Matthieu thinks he could go with Ottoman coin to avoid problems with counterfeiting, and magic would help a lot too. Matthieu also asks if he would be suspicious coming out with a bunch of sudden wealth, or perhaps putting it into a different form: raw gold, bars, etc. Salih says all this is not within his purview; he just wants to make an ark in which the wisdom of the court can survive. He wants the money to be released into circulation and find the people he wants to help. He plans on using many methods to do this: financial colonialism in the New World, buying some property. Matthieu says it resonated with him when Ernst said we are not playing on the right game board, and that we could combat the Seers in the world of finance. Salih says I’m not looking to fight the Seers. They are a distraction. I am trying to preserve the philosophy of this court to a new place. Matthieu says this is precisely still fighting the Seers. Salih says yes, to a certain degree I understand. Matthieu says if it doesn’t matter how this money is released from the ground because eventually Fate will put it in the right hands, I’d like to talk to Lorant about how we use the money. Salih concedes. Matthieu says we could use part of the Star Palace as a vault.

Matthieu and Salih get their invite to Karlstein Castle in that afternoon, likely due to machinations of Lorant and his control of the Emperor. Salih also wants to gather a numismatic selection of coins before putting into play his plan.

ERNST AND ZAYED

Ernst at Benatky, meeting with Zayed, a little after noon. Knocks once, no answer. Knocks again, he hears a chair pulled out, but no footsteps to answer the door. Ernst calls to Zayed through the door and says he’ll be here all day. Zayed eventually comes to the door as Ernst is readying to leave the hall. He emerges, a glassy look in his eyes. Ernst asks if he can come in and we can talk. Zayed suggests going to one of the classrooms. He is stone silent. Ernst says it’s been an interesting last few days. Zayed: “What is your friend Matthieu? I saw a sword melt, fly through the air, and re-form. It is a blasphemy. It is witchcraft. It is wrong.” Ernst: “It is special. It is complicated, it is strange, it is special. But in the hands of a man like Matthieu, not wrong.”

Zayed says, “You know, Maryam is almost finished with her book. When she finishes, I will ask her if we can leave. Forever. You consort with witches, sir.” Ernst asks if he really feels this, gesturing to the classroom, is a bad influence. Zayed concedes that being here has helped Maryam, but he has seen enough to make sure he never wants to set foot in Christian lands again. I fear for her if she is to stay here, and if I have to leave, I will not leave without her. Ernst says, “That is incredibly noble of you.” Zayed: “You may mean us no harm, but I don’t trust the other instructors at this school.” Ernst: “Where will you go? Do not go to Istanbul. I will give you anything you need for the trek, and respect your wishes. If you promise two things: to always protect Maryam, and to find some way to the New World and do not stay in Europe. Do not go to Istanbul. It is not safe there either.” Zayed asks how we would possibly get to… the lands of the Spaniards? They would never allow us to settle there! Ernst says they will. Can you ensure our safety? Zayed asks, not with witchcraft? Ernst says he has resources, and contacts. If you must have the explanation, I can get that for you. I just don’t want you or Maryam in harm’s way. And Istanbul will mean your death. Why would you say that, Zayed says, Istanbul is full of people like us. The New World is full of savages and Spanish, and I hear there is little difference between the two. Ernst says, “Witchcraft is not always bad, when it is in the hands of men like Matthieu.” Zayed says it matters not what kind of men wield these powers. They are sent to men by Shaitan. Ernst says to put you far away from this magic, you must go to the New World. Zayed says which is it? Should I fear witchcraft or welcome it? Ernst says not all men are like Matthieu.

SALIH’S PLAN

After an unfruitful hunt at Neska’s, Salih and Matthieu arrive at the door at the bordello. The women try to entice Matthieu not Salih. Lorant asks if they’d like to retire to Neska’s office so we can speak privately. Matthieu speaks up saying “Yes thank you.” Lorant asks what transpired today that he missed. As he asks, Salih sets up a temporary Ward with Space. As Salih begins, Matthieu explains what’s going on. Matthieu has enlisted the dead architect of the Star Palace to act as its guardian. Archduke Ferdinand of Tyrol. He is very excited to be part of this project. And I have an idea and it’s more metaphysical than I usually do. He wants to resculpt the castle in the lands of the dead, and I thought we could have Ernst enlist a spirit to do the same in the spirit world, and create a multi-layered sacred geometry. Lorant likes this, it is what drew him to the Star Palace in the first place. And it would be more powerful with these multiple layers. Matthieu says he’ll enlist Ernst when the time is right, but it is best to keep his mind as clean as possible. Lorant agrees.

Salih says he has been planning this for a while. And the plan is to seed the ideals of the court in the New World. But he does not know the economics of setting it up, investing in business ventures, send money into the future so it can go to the cause. We have plenty of wealth to work with, but I don’t know which threads to weave to make it safe from war. Matthieu says that this should also go towards blocking and controlling the Seers fiscally. This plan echoes our cabal’s symbolism.

Lorant has some ideas, but he needs to know how much. Salih uses Space within the Memory Palace to illustrate exactly how much. It is a manifestly unspendable amount of money. Lorant wonders where exactly Salih has obtained the massive amount of gold… Spain? Piracy? Santiago? Lorant is nonplussed, he knows nothing of the gold that Makovsky channeled to Europe through the telluric currents.

“This is a lot of money. This will need to be divided up and handled. This much gold will crash the economy.” Lorant says. Matthieu says, “This is why I brought him to you, he wanted to turn it into coins!” Lorant smirks grimly. Salih concedes that economics are beyond him, and he wonders out loud if he could buy out the whole war. Matthieu says no, it would need to happen with the arms manufacturers, and the Seers are behind it. Salih asks, “So what do I do with it? Multiple small investments.” Lorant: “Do you want to grow it or endow it upon someone or something, to finance schools.” Salih explains it will be triggered by Fate magic, to find the people in a position to found these schools and they will find themselves wealthy enough to do so. Lorant: “Do you need this money to be protected until then?” Salih says it needs to go out into the world. It has no motion, and thus no power. I need Fate to take it, and put it into Fate’s hands. Matthieu: “We need these hands to be people the Seers would hate. Thinkers, writers.” Lorant: “Art is easily moveable across borders.” Salih: “We cannot be investing in land in Bohemia, that will not work. I was thinking of investing in land in the New World.” Matthieu: “You don’t need to buy it there.”

Matthieu asks what is the ideology of the Seer, and what is our ideology? Lorant says he can funnel money through Jewish bankers, Italian bankers… they can give you promissory notes that are portable and can be taken anywhere in Christendom. But the New World… that’s a whole different story.” Salih says that is long-term and he understands money will not be useful there, yet. Matthieu asks if he can create past history, enough that a vault in a foreign bank wouldn’t seem that odd. Perhaps England. Salih says, “The idea would be either to go with the English plan, Laval family, or the Jesuits. We can also physically move the money to the New World where it’s discovered by someone. The right person will dig up the treasure.” Matthieu says all the gold should be used here in Europe now. Salih says his financing and Fate magic will cause it to flow in a pattern and follow the lines to the New World, fostering community and education. Matthieu talks about using books to carry these ideas, Salih cites the Hamburg printers we’ve used in the past. Matthieu says we could use Maryam’s book, Matthieu’s writing, Lorant’s writing. Salih wonders how this would work, and Matthieu says paying for these books would release the ideas at the same time as setting the coins out on their journey. A web of patronage, Lorant says. Salih thought he could found a charter school in England. Matthieu says we should encourage anatomical study with cadavers; funding those would provide what he wants. Salih asks how do we put the money out in a non-disruptive way. Lorant says it’s distributing it in small doses, individual patronage. Matthieu says it might make sense to establish a trust where people could go out and endow from the trust. Lorant wants to use his copious contacts. Matthieu says he should use Fate to have the money work its magic before making its way to its “final” destination.

Start with a charter school in England as a stepping off point. Matthieu asks if this is a tough market to break into with education. Lorant likes the idea of franchising our ideas, instead of us going abroad. Salih says his time in Prague is limited. Lorant says it’s going to get bad for all of us. Salih says eventually, our school will be gone. Matthieu says it will be invisible. Salih says yes, but another school in a more stable place is advisable. Matthieu says perhaps you are dealing with a couple of men who have different ideas on time and death than you are. Lorant says he intends his cult to be everywhere. Matthieu intends to lay the work for a new science after his death. Salih concedes he only has a few years in the grand scheme. Many of the young nobles will not survive that war. Matthieu says they will have a long-term effect; Salih simply wants that presence to be lasting. Matthieu asks why the waystation in England. Salih says they'll be fine during and after the war. We use England as the stepping off point, and then institutions and ships from there. Matthieu seems to want to use magic; Salih wants more institutions and somewhere he can personally settle. There is a discussion of whether we should move Benatky physically; that is shot down. Using some of the actual stones of Benatky, yes.

KELLEY

Salih proposes a space-time-matter(fate?) effect that takes the gold out of the ground gradually to each of the investments. Matthieu asks about the security of the actual gold. Salih now has to mention the mine. It's hidden, but there is someone looking for gold where it is. Lorant now knows Kelley is the guy who has ended up in these mines, back where he was arrested. Lorant asks his endgame with him. Salih says he intrigues him. Lorant concurs. Salih says he has potential. He did not expect someone there. Matthieu asks if he feels Fate brought Kelley to him. Salih says yes, and he feels bound to explore this. Lorant says how much do you want to show your hand. Enough to earn his trust. Salih says he's hinted at a larger world I can show him and in exchange he’ll get me to England and help me set up there. Lorant says if you want to keep him safe and get him out of here, he’ll need not to be discovered. Salih says that's why I want to lead him to a small amount of the gold. Lorant asks are you trying to awaken him? Salih simply says I hope I can make the most of my time with him. Getting him out shouldn’t be a problem. If I can show him the larger world, we can just take him there. If that fails, I will still take him to England by whatever means are required. Matthieu asks if he truly thinks Kelley is on the path. Salih says no, but I think he can see it. Matthieu asks can you ask powers that be? Salih says I’ve only seen him once. Lorant says I do not want to interfere with your… experiment. Just be aware is a wanted man, persona non grata. If he is discovered… Salih asks if he knows him from his days at court. Lorant says yes. Salih says he is quite concerned about being discovered and he was shocked I was there. Lorant says if you think my talking to him will help you, let me know. Salih says if he does not step into the larger world, he’ll need our help to get away from here. Matthieu is wary to partner with a man who trades in lies. Salih says it will be a challenge. Matthieu does not want to stake his reputation on freeing him. Salih says conventional means will still be managed by magic. Matthieu says he can build a vein of something hard and valueless to keep him busy in the mines. He can’t hand-mine, anyway. Salih says that was his plan. Matthieu says that’s insane. Lorant says perhaps his finding the motherlode will be what blows his mind. Salih says could we structure the mining experience into a Mystery Play. Matthieu pipes up with “a Labyrinth.” In order to do this, though, they’ll need to know more about him and his existing paradigm. Matthieu says his gut instinct about people are not always good, so we must be aware of the fact he may be a charlatan, and you are playing into his hands to take the things he needs and wants from you. Perhaps he has dowsed this vein using means we do not know of. Lorant says, how much damage could one man do? Matthieu says that’s why I think he’s insane. Why is he hiding here? How does he think he could use this gold to get away? Lorant says he’s not thinking ahead. His purpose at court was to create gold, he’s stuck in that frame of mind. Salih says while he was unprepared for my arrival, he was still intent on the work. Lorant says he finds it fascinating, we should humor him. Salih says wait, I’m going to scry on him, right now. He’ll drop the Ward, let’s look at him right now.

The upper levels of the flooded-out mine are full of abortive attempts to dig deeper. He has a makeshift lab, a sleeping chamber. It’s early evening, he’s still awake, and he’s in his crude lab. Lorant and Matthieu can’t discern his mood. On the walls, are the chalk inscriptions of magic squares and other wards. Lorant examines them, and sees that they are not true magic squares, but grids of squares. He is trying to establish contact with angelic intelligences. He’s not writing in Enochian but Latin letters. They also seem inscribed by someone who doesn’t know what he’s doing. Lorant theorizes that maybe he is trying to remember what Dee did? No, it’s likely he’s always been a poseur, and used these magical schemes as part of his cons.

ERNST AND MARYAM

Ernst goes to Maryam’s door; she invites him in. She’s working on her manuscript. She looks sleepless. Ernst asks if she’s still hard at work. Maryam says she is at the point in the narrative where they’re in northern Italy. Father, Zayed wishes to leave. Ernst says he was coming to speak about that. Maryam says he wants to leave after the book is done. Ernst doesn’t want them to leave but he doesn’t seem to be swayed. How do you feel about it? I assume he’s told you his theories. Maryam is surprised. I assume it was because men came to arrest him yesterday, he doesn’t feel safe. Ernst knows she is lying. He asks if she feels unsafe? Maryam says she’s never seen Zayed like this, and so she is scared. Ernst says he feels blessed to have you in my life. Both of you in my life. At the same time, I realize the challenges it took to get here, and what that means to Zayed. You have my blessing to do what you wish to do, not that you need it. You have shown strength in adversity that I wish I had. Maryam says to have traveled all this way to just stay with you for a little over a month seems foolish. Ernst concurs. You want us to stay? And Zayed wishes to go. We are at an impasse. Ernst says I cannot tell you what to do. Zayed has very firmly held beliefs regarding the situation here. Maybe he hasn’t been fully upfront about them. But it does not look like his mind can be changed. I will say this, if you choose to leave, you start anew. Go to the New World. Maryam knows there’s nowhere they can go there. Ernst says that’s the beauty of it. Maryam says they can go to Istanbul. Ernst says based on knowledge I have from my place at court, that you will be unsafe there, anywhere in the Ottoman Empire. You will be safe here, or elsewhere. Maryam would rather stay here than go to the New World. I have known Zayed for a month, you have known him for years. How do we convince him to stay? Maryam outright says you will find it impossible. Ernst concurs. Maryam asks what happened between the two of them. She is talking back to her father for the first time. A couple of tears fall down her face. Why is he so upset? Tell me the truth. Don’t dissemble, just tell me the truth. Ernst says he has seen things he does not understand. Maryam says he says your friend Dr. Demont is a witch. Tell me true, father, is he? The things I saw on the road the day we came, what Zayed has seen. The truth is he is not a witch, but he is also… and he stumbles. Maryam pleads speak to your daughter, speak the truth! Ernst’s facade cracks and he says I will tell you what I told Zayed. There are people in this world who are special. Dr. Demont is one of them. I trust him implicitly. It is not safe to wander Europe again because there are people who are not as trustworthy as him. Maryam asks are they after us? Is that why they came to arrest Zayed? No. Maryam says you’re lying again. Why did they come after him? Ernst says they are after me. They came after the one thing I have left. Maryam says if you send us away, they’ll come after you. Ernst says if you stay, they will continue. Maryam asks the only place we can be safe is America? It’s the only place I trust. But you will be safe here, you can be protected here. Maryam says we would just be honey to the flies who seek to bite you? Ernst says there are things you are involved in, but this was an attack on your father, not you. Maryam says she does not know what to do. They’re going to come back to arrest him? No, says Ernst. I have no reason to believe they will come after him again. Maryam says she wishes to talk just to Zayed. Will you be here for at least today? As long as you need.

PLANNING KARLSTEIN

Salih and Lorant talk about using vampiric magic to cow Kelley, induct him into the cult.

What to do at Karlstein? Everyone will be there, Rudolf, his retinue, Thurn, Willem, Jiri. Maybe bring Brux? Maybe bring Petras? Even Holoch could come. Matthieu says maybe the Peregrini act respectful as if they are on neutral ground, but let the task force do the dirty work. Salih says he should not let Ernst in on this plan. We could bring Gans and Maier to mix things up and make sure Ernst or the Seers cannot tell who’s the problem. Salih says he could NOT go so as not to overload things. Lorant says no, we should all go and be respectful. We come in peace and do not provoke them overtly. Lorant says we do run the risk of them going to ground after this. Matthieu lays it out… if we go and don’t do anything, it becomes apparent the other Mages are. If the task force comes on our heels, under cover of night, that might be different. Salih asks what the ultimate goal is. Do we wish to eliminate them, or let them know we know about them. Matthieu says this is the hydra; if we strike here, more will appear. Do we trade in kind? Use the Profane Urim on Thurn. Salih says we respond in kind. Matthieu says if we wish to use the Profane Urim, we could be dramatic and use it at the welcoming dinner. Use it to perhaps to make a host speech littered with dogwhistles, maybe insult the Emperor. Lorant and Salih laugh. Lorant says the whole point was to discredit Thurn, so this works well. Who will use it? Should Matthieu stay behind at the Star Palace and use the Urim? We can’t have many more people absent though; we’ll need to have Lorant, Salih, and Ernst go. We won’t bring Gans and Maier, and the task force under cover of night. Salih says if we discredit Thurn completely, they choose another pawn. Matthieu says what if we bring Thurn even closer to the Emperor, but with using the Urim let them know we can use him too. What disinfo to give Ernst? Make him think we’re taking the FIGHT to the Seers. Salih will pretend to be the warlike one, but he won’t actually be taking the fight to them. Salih says this also allows Salih to be the sole target. Not a mage, he points to Lorant, being wooed, he points to Ernst, and won’t be there, he points to Matthieu. How they react to Salih will tell us a lot about their motivations. Salih will be the smoke and mirrors, the distraction. In a pinch, Salih can escape. Matthieu says we should have a signal while he’s using the Profane Urim to bring him there in a pinch.

Salih wants to set up some prep magic and contingencies. Ernst will need to know how Zayed and Maryam are going to proceed before he knows if he’ll go on the hunt. Salih will go to Benatky before the hunt to fill up on Mana. Ernst will go to Prague before Karlstein.

SALIH AND ERNST

Salih comes to Ernst at Benatky in one of the common dining rooms, empty, at night. The chandelier is lit dimly. Ernst is eating alone, without Maryam or Zayed. Salih walks in, sits down. “How are you?” “They might leave,” Ernst says. “After the incident?” Salih asks.

“They saw what they weren’t to see and now they might leave. It’s strange,” Ernst says, “how long have we been dealing with all this, since I Awakened? Ten months? I have fought wars, traveled to distant regions of the world never known to mortal men. And yet, two people come into my life a month ago, and some bastards come here, try to rip them away from me, and it hurts more than anything else.”

“And… though they were not successful, they will still win out,” Salih says. “I cannot imagine.”

“I was seriously considering their offer.”

“But they crossed a line.”

“The line was crossed a while ago. As enticing as their office, their ideology is. They are important to me, you are important to me, and the rest of the cabal is important to me. We chose this battle. But they enlist the unwary in their battle.”

“That’s what war is,” Salih says. “There are always innocents involved.”

“But they stripped away that innocence. How do you explain a flying sword to a man who cannot conceive of this? How do you explain to a man who assumes witchcraft when you would be a witch in his eyes?”

“You would need to explain it in a context that would make sense.”

“And now I have to contain this rage inside of me. Months ago I wanted to usher in a war because I thought it was the rational thing to do. And now, because of them, I merely want to fight them first.”

“This was an attack of an extremely personal nature. How many time have you been willing to sacrifice your life for your men, but unwilling to have them do the same?”

“The life of a general.”

“Yes it is, and it’s different when it’s someone who you’ve sworn to protect.”

“I’m prided myself on being a man of action, decisiveness. Whether you agree with me or not, I will act and do what’s best.”

There’s a knock on the door on the lintel of the dining hall. Zayed and Maryam. Salih and Ernst rise.

“Father?”

“Maryam.”

She looks to Zayed and back to Ernst. “What are your plans for getting us to the New World.”

MATTHIEU AND LORANT

In the Star Palace, Lorant is about to meet the ghost of Ferdinand of Tyrol. Matthieu bestows Death Sight on Lorant. At the center of the bottom floor, he does not manifest but knows Matthieu and Lorant can both see him. “Doctor,” the Archduke says. “He’s not one of your kind.”

“No, but everyone in this room is special.”

Lorant bows deeply. “It is a great honor to meet you.”

“You have me at a disadvantage, sir.”

“I am Lorant Kelemen.”

“What is your role in this group?”

“I am… the political attache.”

“It is good to meet you. What do you wish to discuss?”

Matthieu says, “I have some plans, and I want to discuss them with you. Herr Kelemen is best suited to discuss them.”

L: “I have dabbled in sacred geometry. I have long been fascinated with your architecture here.”

“You honor me, sir. I appreciate that. I realize in death I did not know a fraction of what was really going on under the surface during life. Again you have me at a disadvantage if you know more than I did in life.”

Lorant begins to expound on the secrets he struck upon in life. The Archduke says, “I stumbled about in life as if seeing through a lens darkly, groping about trying to find truth about the environment around me. Yes, I can see more clearly now, but I have no hands to build with.”

Matthieu says this ties in well with what he’d like to talk about. “Where I have sealed some openings, they exist in your lands.” The Archduke knows that echoes of dead buildings exist in his lands. “It’s a mess,” he says. Matthieu introduces the concept of multidimensional sacred geometry, and how he could act as a builder in the lands of the dead. “Before you build,” Matthieu says, “I want the three of us to speak about a three-layered geometry for this building. Beyond this world and yours there is a third. We could create more power and resonance in this place.”

“What would this accomplish?” the Archduke asks. “I was a dilletante. Now what would we do with your plan?”

“To lock and keep in sanctuary things of importance, yes,” Matthieu says, “but a network exists throughout the world. Empowering this place would connect it to this network.”

“What is this fuel in the network you’re speaking of?”

“The ideology of enlightened man.”

Matthieu thinks of printing more manuscripts from Atlantis. Building something to echo Bensalem… or perhaps a nested design of shapes in death, material, and spirit? Maybe Matthieu takes “macro-micro” as a specialty in occult to reflect this project and his Legacy. Maybe take the Archduke as a retainer.

“Who would build the spirit realm?”

“Applications are being accepted.”

Matthieu plans to make a copy of Voynich and then destroys it to turn it into ephemera.
