Peregrini

Page history last edited by John O'Brien 10 years, 3 months ago

Creed: We, the Peregrini Cabal of the Consilium of Greater Bohemia, are dedicated to the preservation, advancement, and dissemination of knowledge amongst Sleepers, Sleepwalkers, and Awakened alike. And while we strive to build an Athenaeum for the Ages, we also understand the need for and sanctity of proprietary knowledge, and for the discretionary distribution of the aforesaid knowledge; neither misers nor profligates shall we be with our riches.

Motto:

Habitabunt sub eo omnes volucres universum volatile sub umbra frondium eius nidificabit.

Vögel aller Art in ihm wohnen und alles, was fliegt, im Schatten seiner Zweige bleiben kann.

Birds of every kind shall nest there and find shelter in the shade of the branches.

- Ezekiel 17:23

Emblem: The falcon hieroglyph.

Banner: Horus the Falcon, surmounted by a sun disc bearing the Wedjat, the All-Seeing Eye.

Honoraries & Orders: Five birds run along the left hand edge, each representing one of the members of the cabal. The sigil of their corresponding Order runs along the right hand edge. The birds (and their respective correspondence and occult symbolism) are:

The hawk has long been regarded as a noble, patient hunter; among the Egyptians, mysterious hawklike birds with human heads, and carrying in their claws the symbols of immortality, are often shown hovering as emblems of the liberated soul over the mummified bodies of the dead. The ancient Slavs viewed their world as an immense tree, with the branches and treetop representing the world of mortals and the heavenly abode of the gods, while the roots represented the underworld. Perun was depicted as a hawk sitting upon the highest branch of the tree, whilst his eternal adversary-- the serpent Veles-- coiled amongst the branches.

Being scavengers, the vulture signified that form of divine power which by disposing of refuse and other matter dangerous to the life and health of humanity cleanses and purifies the lower spheres. These birds were therefore adopted as symbols of the disintegrative processes which accomplish good while apparently destroying, and by some religions have been mistakenly regarded as evil.

The albatross spends much of its life at sea, and regularly circles the globe during their near-constant flight. Sailors often consider having their ship followed by an albatross to be an auspicious omen. In a later century, the albatross will come to be regarded as a metaphor for bearing a wearisome burden, in an allusion to Coleridge's 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner'.

The eagle is a universal symbol representing the sun, power, authority, victory, the sky gods and the royal head of a nation; the two-headed eagle represents the alchemical marriage: the reconciliation of matter and spirit. It is also the symbol of the Hapsburg Dynasty.

The peacock was an object of veneration because they destroyed the poisonous reptiles which were popularly regarded as the emissaries of the infernal gods. Because of the myriad of eyes in its tail feathers the peacock was accepted as the symbol of wisdom, and on account of its general appearance it was often confused with the fabled phœnix of the Mysteries. There is a curious belief that the flesh of the peacock will not putrefy even though kept for a considerable time. As an outgrowth of this belief the peacock became the emblem of immortality, because the spiritual nature of man--like the flesh of this bird--is incorruptible. His icon faces to the left, symbolizing 'the Left-Handed Path' the Tzadik has found himself traveling.

Foundation: Horus the Falcon carries two shields in its talons; one bears a cross, the other a chalice.

Arch: A skull bearing the word 'demon' rendered in Hebrew (representing the cabal's defeat of the shedim Ketev Miriri), and a second skull bearing the sigil for the Seers of the Throne (commemorating the cabal's defeat of Lorenzo di Brindisi the Capuchin Abbot). The scales represent meting out justice (capturing Makovsky in Bensalem for the Consilium).

Oh! Ernst has joined the Adamantine Arrow? I must have missed that plot point. I'll change the sigil when I get a chance...

He's a probationary member at this point, and I think I just need to check with Jeff on his intentions with his current batch of XP. Also, do you want to throw a skull on there for the Seer of the Throne? :)
