Scene One: Disorder

The crowd of parishioners outside the main synagogue surges forward. Matthieu animates shadows to provide cover for the cabal, withstanding a fairly strong paradox backlash. The shadows cover Salih and Matthieu but not Ernst because he is further ahead, closer to the crowd. Ernst calls upon spirits of translation to help his convincing the crowd. Ernst speaks in tongues, telling the crowd, "I am not what he says I am; we are not your enemies." The crowd stops; one of the rabbis replies in German, "Our holy places have been desecrated, our holy of holies stolen. Open your bag." Salih uses his Mage Sight to try to find Neshek's aura; he cannot. Matthieu makes the shadows look a bit more natural to prevent the effect from looking too obviously magical. The rabbi comes down from the stairs; Ernst sheaths his sword. Ernst pulls out the bag, "We've been looking for some items to help you with..." The rabbis look inside and see the holy items. "Thieves! Thieves!" The words ring out in Hebrew, Yiddish and German. "How do you explain this?" they ask. Salih casts Bestow Exceptional Luck (4) on Ernst. Matthieu shoulders off his bag. Ernst puts up his hands as a sign of peace, "There is something very strange going on here. I have no interest in stealing your holy artifacts." Ernst uses his luck to try and convince the crowd to hear him out. "I think we need to find out how exactly you ended up with these items. For that, you should come inside." Salih activates scrying to keep an eye on Ernst. As he gets closer to the outbuildings, Salih notices and Ernst starts to feel blocked from going into the building. Salih identifies it as a spatial ward; Ernst just knows an effect is on him. Matthieu puts up Mage Sight (Prime). Ernst uses Degrading the Form to make it look like something is affecting him, as a curse, of which he is the victim. Ernst's "curse" causes the rabbis to stop escorting him in. They consult with each other and say, "We must find Lóránt, the demon slayer." (0 - 40)

Scene 2: Aftermath

In the square, Salih analyzes the rabbis' reaction to the curse and their call for Lóránt. Their concern has been switched from the theft to finding out what's going on and finding Lóránt to help them. Ernst tells the rabbis "We don't need Lóránt... I was here with some companions, let's wait until they arrive." Ernst stalls the rabbis from going into the offices, waiting for Salih and Matthieu to join him. Salih does so. He comes over, notes the spatial ward has Neshek's signature, as the rabbis ask "What can be done for him?" Salih asks if they can help him find Lóránt; the rabbis ask why, since Ernst told them they do not need him. Salih uses a Fate effect to make the rabbis can "stumble across" Neshek. Matthieu pretends to use his medical skill to "heal" Ernst. In fact Matthieu destroys the ward and Ernst follows Matthieu's cues to act as if he is "healed." (40 - 52)
